Browser storage

Cookie policy

A small amount of storage lets the practice area remember your session and the study choices you save. Here is what the current service uses.

What is active now

TheoryTestEU uses necessary session storage for the practice service and device storage for features you choose, such as saving a road sign. No analytics tracker or advertising network is active, and the website does not currently set advertising cookies.

StoragePurposeDuration
dt_session
First-party cookie
Recognises your practice session and connects it to your preferences, saved answers and learning records.30 days after issue, unless replaced or removed sooner.
Local storageRemembers saved road signs and selected chapter read markers on this browser/device.Until you remove the saved item or clear this site’s browser data; there is no automatic expiry.
Service-worker cacheKeeps public app icons and an offline notice available for an installed web app.Until the cache is replaced by an update or cleared through your browser.

What the session cookie contains

The cookie contains a random session identifier. It does not contain your answers, driving identity documents, password or payment card details. The server stores a hash of the session token and uses it to keep each learner’s records separate.

On the HTTPS site, the cookie has the Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax protections. Your browser sends it when the service needs to recognise the session; ordinary page scripts cannot read its value.

Offline storage has a limited role

The service worker does not cache private API responses, account pages, saved exam sessions or timed mock tests. You need an internet connection to save answers and sync progress. A theory document you deliberately download is a separate file on your device; removing browser cookies does not remove that file.

How to remove or block storage

  1. Use the practice area’s saved-sign controls to remove individual favourites where available.
  2. Open your browser’s site-data or storage settings, find theorytesteu.com and remove its cookies and local storage.
  3. If you installed the web app, use the browser’s storage controls to clear its offline cache as well. Remove downloaded study files separately if you no longer want them.

Blocking the session cookie prevents the practice area from reliably saving or resuming your session. Blocking local storage may prevent saved signs or chapter markers from being remembered, while reading the material can still work.

Clearing browser data is different from account deletion. Removing a cookie does not erase learning records on the server and may leave a guest session inaccessible. Export or delete your account from account settings before clearing its cookie if you want to manage those records.

If optional services are added

Google login, Stripe checkout, analytics and advertising are not configured for the current release. If an optional service is activated, we will identify its storage and purpose in these policies. Any nonessential advertising or analytics that requires consent will need an appropriate choice before it is loaded.

For background, Google publishes information about its advertising technologies and controls. No Google advertising cookies are set by this website merely because we link to that information.
